I thought it sounded like fun so we gave it a shot!
I especially love watching their little friendship and realizing they both contribute so much to each other because of their differences. I love being their mom!Krisyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07691963623187534945noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7363924485945248692.post-41355573697767690252016-06-29T21:34:00.000-06:002018-09-02T10:39:05.823-06:00A at 3½3½ is looking pretty handsome today!
His stats are:

Weight: 34.2 lbs.

Height: 40 inches

Diaper Size:100% potty trained!

Clothing Size: Almost too tall for a lot of 3T but too skinny to wear 4T.

Likes: Repeating letters to spell words, counting to 20, playing all sorts of silly games with E.

Dislikes: Being tired, being hungry, when things aren't his idea.

This little guy is a whirlwind of energy, fun, and naughtiness all rolled into one! In the past few months, he has become more daring and loves to climb on everything, jump off anything, and run around everywhere. He loves going to the park, the beach, and taking walks along the trail by our house.

As much as I'm amazed by his excessive amounts of energy, I'm even more impressed by his cleverness! He can write his name and recently enjoys practicing writing his letters. He also knows the phonetic sounds of most letters and tries to sound out words he sees. He also wants to spell basic words, but still needs a bit of guidance to piece the whole word together.

He also loves numbers! He can count over 100 and quizzes us constantly with basic addition and subtraction. Although most equations we do deal with numbers under ten, I've been surprised at how easily his brain grasps the concept of math.

His memory is also really impressive. We can briefly show him a picture of multiple items and he remembers most of them once we take it away, but also still remembers it hours later! He talks about books or conversations we've had months ago. Unfortunately, his wittiness and his memory contribute to helping him be surprisingly good at lying, especially to avoid getting out of trouble!

Another thing that has been a challenge with his intelligence is keeping him engaged. He loved reading when he was little but has recently seemed bored with it. A couple months ago, I invested in some science-topic books geared for 5-8 year olds, and it's been great to see his interest in reading spark back up. His favorite is what he calls "the brain book" because it talks about all the different parts of the body and their functions, and his favorite of all is the page about the brain.

His love of science jumped another notch when he discovered "The Magic School Bus" on Netflix. I remember watching that show as a kid, several years older than him! It's so cute to watch him loving something I liked as a kid, and it's fun having 3-year-old conversations about how white blood cells fight bacteria or what happens to your food after you eat it.

Speaking of eating, he is constantly hungry! He needs to eat a decent amount of food every two hours or else he gets "hangry" and throws some threenager tantrums! Luckily, he's a good eater and gets less picky as he gets older.

He is a sweet big brother and tells everyone E is his best friend. When they play at the park, he will refuse to play with other kids and only want to play with her. He loves to boss her around and has had some struggles recently as she is becoming more independent. He is also very competitive and doesn't like if she does anything first or faster than him. But she absolutely adores him and they play together all day long.

He has a very tender, kind side to his personality. Although he has recently become energetic and naughtier than usual, I am continually impressed with his awareness and sensitivity. When I have a rough day, he gives the sweetest hugs and tells me cute little things that always help me smile.

When we moved to Michigan this summer, I was very curious how well he would adapt to the change and living in an almost-empty apartment. He has done really well and has made the transition better and more fun for E too. He loves sunbeams here and hasn't been nervous at all about having an entirely new class {although it probably helps that his class is a big group of all boys!} He also loves to shout "hello" to any of the neighbors we pass in the apartment complex and says hi to strangers in the store. It's been fun to watch him blossom socially.

He is such an amazing little guy and I'm so grateful to be his mom. I love watching all the ways he's developing and progressing into a wonderful little person.Krisyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07691963623187534945noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7363924485945248692.post-30036364737636545242016-05-09T22:44:00.000-06:002018-01-02T03:19:15.414-07:00Summer Internship in KalamazooEver since selling our home and livin' the grad school dream (aka tight budget and itty bitty living space!), our life has felt much more like an adventure. And this summer, we're embarking on the biggest adventure we've experienced yet.

M was offered a fantastic internship with Eaton and they are sending us to Kalamazoo, Michigan for the summer. Because it's short term, we are renting a small apartment and only taking what we can fit in our car to take with us (loaded as full as we can pack it in!) This means we'll be sleeping on air mattresses and eating meals at a folding table. It's a 23-ish hour drive. We're calling it our "Summer Adventure" and the kids are ecstatic! Please keep those fingers crossed and wish us luck!

We've had at least one sickie the past two Sundays, so today was A's first chance to go to his new Sunbeams church class!! He was so excited and did great! His old Nursery teachers got "upgraded" to stay with the class, so he seemed perfectly comfortable with the transition!

And in other big news, E is now officially a Nursery girl! It was her first day of class today and she did really well!! I was nervous for her because she's never been away from at least one of us for that long—she always has A with her when she's been babysat. I think it was strange for her to be all on her own, but she was really proud of herself when I came to pick her up.

Oh and I actually got to listen to the lessons in my classes! It's been a fantastic day for all of us!Krisyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07691963623187534945noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7363924485945248692.post-61257482984877334312015-12-29T16:08:00.000-07:002016-06-28T13:27:40.441-06:00Happy 3rd Birthday A!!I am constantly amazed at how grown up this boy has gotten! He is incredibly witty and fun, and I'm so grateful to have him as part of our family!
We kept his birthday pretty simple this year because almost all of his little friends are ones we've met here through M's MBA program... and a lot of families went out of town for the school's Christmas break. But he always says that E is his very best friend, so I think he was perfectly fine just celebrating with family.

We also had a little party in Idaho with my family and another little party here with M's family. Three parties for a 3-year-old seems like a pretty perfect deal. His 3-year-old stats are:

Weight: 31.5 lbs.

Height: 39 inches

Diaper Size: 97% Potty Trained!

Clothing Size: Tall for his 2T clothes but his 3T stuff is a bit baggy.

Likes: Repeating letters to spell words, counting to 20, playing all sorts of silly games with E.

Dislikes: Being tired, being told what to do.

He is such a clever boy! I love watching him work on things and see his eyes light up as he solves his projects. He still enjoys doing puzzles and lately has been doing amazing well at large 24-piece jigsaw puzzles lately!

He has also found a love of building with blocks, particularly with his Legos. He has always loved organizing, playing by sorting his toys into lines and patterns, so it's been fun to watch his methodical habits transform into creating well-planned, symmetrical towers and buildings. I've started to wonder if he'll grow up to be an architect!
Recently, he has also started showing more interest in art projects. It's been fun for me to spend time drawing or coloring together. He especially loves painting and is fascinated in what colors are made by mixing together other colors. He doesn't draw particular things, such as people or toys, but his artwork is always a specific arrangement/lines/patterns of colors in a systematic version of creativity.
For Christmas, Santa brought our family two new iPad Minis. I am amazed at his ability to navigate the apps as well as his skill level with any of the preschool apps!

Speaking of preschool, we decided to get A involved in a little co-op group with our MBA friends. It is music based and the moms take turns teaching simple topics such as the seasons, shapes and colors, etc. It has been really fun to help A socialize and get involved with other kids, but one of his favorite parts is that E gets to come and sit right next to him each week! It's so cute to watch them make new friends together.
He loves to spell small words, he knows how to spell the names of our family as well as a few other short ones such as "no," "go," and "stop." He constantly wants to know how to spell more words but doesn't fully understand how to figure it out phonetically, so he will ask us how to spell more difficult words and then repeats the letters proudly.
Our MBA friends also organized a kid's soccer league, so A played on a soccer team this fall that M helped co-coach with another dad. It was so much fun to watch. He loved practice and I think it was because it was fun for each kid to have their own ball, running around and kicking it together. But as soon as the actual game started, A didn't like having to compete with everyone to get the one ball on the field. Most games, he would come sit with E and I on the sidelines and refuse to play. A couple times, he willingly gave it a try but came out crying within the first few minutes because someone pushed or kicked him. Yet by the time the team treats came out at the end of each game, he was suddenly happy to be on the team again.
As E has continually become more and more fun, he continues to develop into such a fantastic big brother. He loves to tease her but is also very protective of her when anyone else is around. He also loves to make up silly games and includes her in everything, to the point that sometimes he causes problems by demanding she play his games constantly.
This has been a really busy time for our family with M going back to school, and selling our home and moving to a small apartment. I was worried about all the changes, particularly how A would handle them, but he has done really well adjusting to the move to Provo. He and E now share a room and they LOVE it. Each night, it takes at least an hour for them to fall asleep because they're busy giggling and playing together. I feel like it has really helped their friendship blossom in ways it never would have before.

The world fascinates him! Although sometimes it makes me crazy that he asks a million questions each day, it's fun to see the world through his eyes. He is my little shadow and also enjoys being involved around the house. He takes great pride in being a helper!
He has been so excited for his birthday! He really loves numbers and counting, so it's become a big deal to him that he'll be three because he's starting to realize that bigger numbers means growing bigger too. He's so cute and I love seeing how logically he grasps concepts.

I love being his mom and he is growing up to be such a sweet, smart and helpful little boy! When we went to see Santa, they were both nervous. A tried really hard to be brave and sat on Santa's lap like a big kid; E, on the otherhand, couldn't conquer her fear and was terrified when we tried to give her to Santa!

A comprehends the basics of things like the story of Baby Jesus as well as Santa Claus, but I'm grateful he is still sweet and unselfish in what gifts he wants—all he wanted was "the Hippo Game." And I especially loved how he was thrilled and grateful when Santa brought it for him!

This year, we decided to follow an idea where the kids ask for four items: something they want, something they need, something to wear, and something to read. I love the simplicity of this idea and allowed us to talk more about gifts to get for other people rather than constantly thinking of more and more toys they want for themselves. It turned out that the majority of their gifts were from each other and it was fun to teach them about the joy of giving instead of receiving. As we mommas do, I worried it would seem like a sparce Christmas morning but the kids seemed to think it was great and didn't seem as overwhelmed by all the new stuff like they have in the past.

We still managed to fit in our annual trip to Temple Square, although this year we did it on Christmas Day instead of Christmas Eve. Unfortunately, it was below freezing and soooo cold!! But it still helped us remember the real meaning of Christmas.

On my mom's side, the majority of the cousins and aunts/uncles have ended up spread throughout Idaho and Utah. A couple years ago, we realized that Brigham City, Utah was a pretty good middle spot for almost everyone and the tradition began. It's fun to get to do something Christmasy with my family and I especially love getting to see a lot of my cousins all in one place!

My grandpa Bennett had been really looking forward to hosting Thanksgiving dinner in his home this year.

His house is historic and the room where we ate used to be the Lehi mayor's office! My grandpa is an artist and has a great eye for details and balance. He has been working on a lot of renovations with my Uncle Steve—and the house looks amazing!!
My parents and Kyle came down from Idaho, and Brandon came to dinner too. I think my grandpa really enjoyed having the house full with everyone again. Five of his eight kids were able to come as well as 15 of the grandkids plus his two great-grandkids! It's been awhile since I've seen some of my cousins who were able to come, so it was fun to see everyone!Krisyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07691963623187534945noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7363924485945248692.post-35211648618384457272015-10-31T23:01:00.000-06:002015-12-13T23:34:46.969-07:00HalloweenFor Halloween this year, A really really wanted to be "a brave knight!" And since E is young enough that we can still make her have a costume to match her brother's, we figured it was only fitting to have a ferocious dragon that the brave knight could slay! They both looked so cute!
We had a fun little Halloween party at Grandma Shaughnessy's the week before; then the night before, we went MBASA's {the MBA Spouse Association} Halloween party and Trunk or Treat. The kids thought it was so awesome to get candy just for wearing a costume! These two make holidays magical.Krisyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07691963623187534945noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7363924485945248692.post-90862717164495755812015-10-10T21:32:00.000-06:002015-12-13T23:33:10.914-07:00E at 15 MonthsIt's pretty much official that this little doll is not a baby anymore! Our life has been so busy with selling our home and moving to a new city... and I feel like I blinked and suddenly she is so grown up, intelligent, and spunky as ever.

Her stats are:

Weight: 24.0 lbs.

Height: 31 inches

Diaper Size: Still wearing the Size 3's.

Clothing Size: Fits best in 12 Months outfits but wears 18 Months also.

Likes: Singing and dancing to music, talking, exploring, doing anything with her big brother/best friend.

Dislikes: Being tired, when she can't do what she wants.

She is adorable and so much fun every day. She and A have truly become friends and are able to interact like two little humans. Her personality is strong and still continuing to develop, particularly how she loves to make everyone laugh, but is also so dramatic and stubborn when she doesn't get her way. Her tantrums are an entire level above anything we ever experienced with A and make me laugh out loud as she flails on the floor with a tantrum worthy of a theater stage.

She also has her daddy completely wrapped around her little finger. The other day, he came home and she started crying so he would cuddle and adore her. I was cracking up and pointing out that she was completely faking it but he didn't believe me and felt so sorry for her sad little cry... until she tried it again a little bit later and he could see how well she was switching the sadness on and off like a switch! I'm nervous how well she'll be able to play these games on him when she's 16! But the way they adore each other is so cute.

She is very creative and it's fun to watch her play. She loves to draw and color and create. We have toy blocks that she and A play really well together. They love to dump out the entire bucket and play building towers and patterns for a long time. She is very curious and determined, which makes her surprisingly good at building and figuring out how things work.

She also loves to play with stuffed animals and dolls. She is so nurturing and loves to hold and snuggle the toys like a baby... but drives us crazy when she holds her baby dolls because they "cry" {which means she screeches "wah wah wah!" at the top of her lungs until we stroke the baby's head and say "it's okay baby, don't cry!" which makes her giggle every single time!}

Last week, she found one of her old binks—which she hasn't used since she was only a couple months old—and pretended it was a bottle to feed her toys. She was holding it to their mouths and saying "mmmm!" She has such a big heart and loves to take care of everyone.

Her big brother loves to be the recipient of her kind heart by inventing games such as suddenly falling down and telling her that she needs to come save him, so she drops what she's doing and runs over to help him back up. And he does it over and over; and she helps him up again and again. I love seeing their friendship developing and how much they adore each other. Don't get me wrong, they still fight like crazy and I spend {what feels like} the majority of my day refereeing their battles! But they both constantly refer to each other as their "best friend" and would do anything to help or protect one another. I'm so grateful they have each other and recognize what a great opportunity it is to have a best friend/sibling friendship!

She is beginning to show more interest in talking, but usually only says "dad," "mom," and "ayn-en" plus a variety of animal noises such as "moo," "baa," and "meow" {plus when we ask her what dogs say, she makes a panting noise instead of barking!}

Her level of comprehension is really advancing too. She understands things we ask her to do, even if they are somewhat complicated and involve a couple separate steps of instruction.

Similar to her brother at this age, she really likes music! But while he liked pretending to play instruments and conduct, she loves to sing and dance. They both love the show "Little Einsteins" but she is much more active and excitedly follows all the directions {such as singing along or clapping or jumping to the music} and it's really fun to watch her interact with the characters in the show!

She loves bathtime and if anyone so much as mentions the word "bath," she instantly tries to remove all of her clothes and run to the bathroom immediately.

She loves books! When we moved to the new house, we put our old bookshelf in their room to stack toys on and filled the bottom shelves with the kid's books. Now she loves to run to her room, grab a book, run to the front room where she plops down and reads the book, then jumps up and gets a new one. Over and over again.

Playing outside is so much fun for her now that she's very stable on her feet. She loves slides and climbing on everything at the park; she gets bored in the swings and never likes to do it for more than a minute or two unless A is the one pushing her.

She is a good sleeper and has adjusted to sharing a room with A better than I anticipated. She knows when she is tired and likes to sing herself to sleep, especially at nap time.

She loves discovering her body parts and points to everyone's nose, eyes, mouth, ears, head, hair, tummy, fingers, hands, toes, feet, legs, and arms. She especially likes to do this when she wakes up too early in the morning and I'm trying to rock her back to sleep... but instead she wants to poke my face and tell me all about things like my "eeeeyyyyeee" and "nooooose!"

If anyone has food or something she wants, she says "pitttty peeeessseee" {pretty please!} over and over again until we share. And it's so cute that it's hard to ever tell her no!

She loves to help in the kitchen and seems to constantly be underfoot when I'm trying to make meals. She knows which cupboards have her favorite things to play with and she loves to help get things out of the fridge any time it opens! She loves milk but has been really easy to transition away from a bottle to a sippy cup. She also has never really cared for a bink or anything like that; she does sleep with her blankey every night and wants to carry it around with her—but I think it's to copy A {who is extremely attached to his blanket!} more than an actual need to have it with her.

She is great at eating anything we serve for meals and is not picky at all. I can't even think of a single food she doesn't like. She is very aware of her appetite—she pulls out her chair at the table when she wants to eat! And as soon as she's had enough food, she very adamantly refuses any more bites!

This girl has been such a blessing to our family. I feel like she really completes us. Her dad is smitten with her, her big brother adores her, and I absolutely love to be around her. She is happy, silly, and so much fun to be with!Krisyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07691963623187534945noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7363924485945248692.post-88400279901749770382015-08-04T15:05:00.000-06:002015-08-09T08:44:22.636-06:00Little Miracles in Life

I have a testimony of the gospel and I know my Father in Heaven loves me. I don't talk about it as much as I could and I definitely don't write about it here as much as I should. Yesterday was one of those miracle days that solidified my conviction in my beliefs and I want to write my experience.

Our house has been on the market for 43 days. We decided selling it would be our best way to finance the next chapter in our lives. When we first contacted our realtor, she told us how hot the market is right now and that she was selling practically everything within a month of the listing date. We excitedly listed our house, watched that "For Sale" sign go up in our front yard, cleaned like crazy for showing after showing, and waited for the offer we were hopeful would come. After a month, we were still desperately waiting and decided to drop the price. This brought even fewer showings and, obviously, no offers.

With M starting school in just over two weeks, we have been stressing over our plans and the lack of progress. We've been praying our little hearts out and decided to fast on Sunday that we could figure out our housing situation. Shortly after starting our fast, our Provo friends called to tell us they just found out our ideal apartment—not just the complex but the exact unit, the apartment directly above our friends—was coming available. All day Sunday, we deliberated if we should try to get the apartment even though we still have our house too. Having both a mortgage and a rent payment while surviving on student loans seemed terrifying!

Finally, we decided to jump in with both feet and apply for the apartment. We are officially first in line for it and they are processing the application. This was the same day M had already been planning on turning his two-week notice that he will be leaving his job. Needless to say, our tensions were running pretty high!

An hour after applying for the apartment, our realtor called to ask if we could do a showing that evening. I don't believe in coincidences so it seemed rather amazing that the day after fasting our apartment was hopefully lined up as well as a showing. I got the house ready while trying desperately to not get my hopes up since there was a good chance it would be yet another "thanks but no thanks" experience. We were getting ready for bed when the text came through that they liked the house and were considering an offer; and a couple hours later we got the official offer. It is such a good offer we won't even be negotiating and even the closing date fits perfectly with our apartment.

Within 24 hours of our fast, everything for our housing is falling into place.

It is amazing to me this is all suddenly working out. It probably isn't that important in the grand scheme of eternal things, but because it is important to us and we are important to Him then these little things work out so that we can have happiness and feel His love for us. My heart is so full of peace and gratitude today!

(This cute little apartment is where we will call home for the next two years. She loved that she had her own cake... but hardly ate anything and just enjoyed making a mess with all that frosting!

The next day, we had a family party with all of M's people. It was so fun for E to have her cousins to play with and celebrate her day. I felt guilty that we didn't have a huge friend party for her like we did for A... but whenever I thought about who to invite, I realized her very best friend is her big brother and her two other favorite friends are her cousins. So having a family party was exactly what she would enjoy! {Of course, her BFF assumed that meant he got to help her open every single present... even though it was things like fingernail polish and jeweled sunglasses!}
Unfortunately, my paternal grandma passed away a few days before E's first birthday. My family was able to come celebrate with E a few days after her birthday due to funeral arrangements—but we were happy to have them whenever they could! It was especially fun because my dad's birthday is only a few days after E's... which means we celebrated their days together with him on his actual birthday! He loves being a grandpa and it's fun to watch him with my kids so it seemed like a perfect way to have the parties!
I know this little girl helped to heal her grandpa's heart at least a little bit after just losing his mom. She is a sweetheart and has been such a great part of our family. I love this little lady so much and hope she had the greatest birthday a one-year-old could ever ask for!

Her current stats:

Weight: 23.3 lbs.

Height: 30 inches

Diaper Size: Still wearing the Size 3's.

Clothing Size: She wears 9-12 Months outfits.

Likes: Eating, dancing by trying to jump up and down like crazy, mimicking tons of things we do, using her voice to talk/sing/yell/whatever, giving lots of kisses.

Dislikes: When anyone tells her no.

This determined little lady is walking!! The week before her birthday, she set her own little record of six steps. Then at her birthday party, she was making cute wobbly steps across half the room. For the past month, she has seemed nervous about taking steps on her own. But apparently having a birthday helped her decide she was ready because she is motivated and trying to walk every chance she can.

She loves experimenting with her voice and sings/chants/yells all the time. It's so cute... until it gets really loud and screechy! She and A escalate by feeding off of each other's volume levels.

Her vocabulary includes "Dad-dad," "Mom-mom," and "Nen-nen," as well as "Uh-oh," "Hi," "Buh" {blanket}, "Babba" {bottle}, "Meh" {milk}, and "Moh" {more}. On top of her verbal efforts toward communication, she is very good at pointing toward what she wants and making noises to indicate what she wants.

We ask her if she wants something and, if not, she shakes her head "no." So she obviously understands the word, but when she's being naughty and we tell her "no," she hates it! As a master of the art of tantrums, being told to stop or not do something causes her to throw a beautiful tantrum complete with flopping on the floor while screaming. It's hilarious, adorable, and annoying all at the same time!

She has started mimicking things that the rest of us do. She especially loves copying A with both his actions and his sounds. It's amazing to watch how perceptive she is and the things she attempts to imitate.

Lately, she loves organizing toys. She pulls everything out of containers {And cupboards. And mom's purse. And anything else she can find!} and then picks it all back up and puts it back where she found it. Over and over again. She can be a little tornado of destruction but it's really cute to watch her try to help clean things up.

She loves reading books. Her favorite place to go is the basket of kids books; she pulls a bunch out and sits on the floor flipping through pages. She likes to sit on our laps and read together for as long as we'll hand her books. She is so curious any time she sees a book—even if its something boring like one of our old textbooks!

She likes to cuddle more lately. When she's tired, she likes to snuggle together in the rocking chair with her blanket to fall asleep. I love having the time to cuddle with her because I feel like I missed a lot of the rocking and snuggling stage while she was colicky.

This sweet little doll has become such a happy kid. The past year has flown by and I am simply amazed to think back over the ups and downs we've gone through over the year only to see how perfect, sweet, and fun she has turned out to be. She is learning so much and her personality has truly blossomed. I know I've said it a million times before, but I feel so lucky to be her mom!

At the beginning of this year, M started studying for the GMAT and preparing his applications for grad school. After tons of thinking, talking, praying, a few tears, some more talking, and some more praying, we've decided that the best choice for M's career path is to return to school full-time to get an MBA.

He did well on the GMAT and was accepted to BYU for the fall! Because the program is pretty intense, M is actually not supposed to work for at least the first year so that he can focus on studying and acquiring an internship. As we started weighing out the options of how to best make this happen, we realized that the equity we had in our home could go a long way in financing our next two years. So we contacted our realtor... and our house is officially on the market!

While we are so sad at the thought of leaving our first home, I am extremely grateful to have this option so that I can continue to be a full-time mom for my kids. It's something I've always felt strongly about and I'm so glad that I have a husband who supports me {as well as some obvious divine intervention to help us make it happen!} I feel like this house has been a huge blessing for us from start to finish. Not only is it in a fantastic neighborhood where we've been able to make some dear life-long friends, we were also blessed to get the house at a fantastic price that has allowed us to make a substantial amount from its potential sale. We've made so many great memories in this house and I'm grateful for all that it has been for our little family.Krisyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07691963623187534945noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7363924485945248692.post-219281549709700932015-04-10T15:51:00.000-06:002015-07-12T23:46:10.608-06:00Baby E at 9 MonthsIt's official: this cute babe has been in the world longer than she was in my tummy. Her smile is so cute and flashes her two cute teeth. But lately, that smile has her tongue peeking out. Speaking of smiles... she absolutely loves when someone smiles at her and she flashes a huge, flirtatious smile to anyone that acknowledges her. And then she tries to play peek-a-boo to continue getting more and bigger smiles from everyone. It's hilarious.

She loves to talk! She is back to saying "mom-mom-mom," but it is usually either when she wants more food or when she is sad and wants to snuggle. Her favorite words are still "dad-dad-dad" and "nen-nen" and she says them when she is excited about things or sees either of the boys.

Of all the people she likes to spend time with, her very favorite friend is her big brother. She thinks he is absolutely amazing because he is so grown up. E watches all the things A can do and tries to keep up. It's adorable to watch the two of them chase, climb, and tumble together.
Umm how is she already 8 months old?! I swear it's been maybe two months since she was born. Time is flying by too quickly!

Her current stats:

Weight: 19.5 lbs.

Height: 28 inches

Diaper Size: She recently moved up to Size 3.

Clothing Size: She's still in 3-6 Months clothes but almost too tall for most of them.

Likes: Eating, talking, crawling everywhere, climbing up everything, pretending she's two years older than she really is.

Dislikes: Having her nose wiped, being expected to lay still during a diaper change.

She thinks she's a two-year-old stuck in a baby's body. She wants to be eating real foods just like the rest of the family. She has been so good at chewing even before getting her two bottom teeth. Now, she thinks she's practically unstoppable... until she chokes! She's given us a couple scares but just keeps trying. Her determination to be a big kid is admirable!

Luckily for her, mom and dad like sharing their food {and yes, you guessed it, big brother does not always like sharing his!} so she has been able to try quite the variety of food. She officially loves french fries and chocolate like her mommy and pizza like her dad! She has tried tomatoes, which are A's favorite food, but she definitely doesn't like them as much as she likes other fruits and veggies.

She is becoming so talkative and loves jabbering away—particularly when she's tired and is trying to fall asleep. She also loves trying to copy A when he's talking... and he enjoys copying her in return but much louder, which tends to escalate to a lot of yelling in only a matter of seconds! Although she used to say "mom-mom-mom" {not in association with me, but just the sounds}, she seems to have abandoned that for her new favorite word, "dad-dad-dad." As long as she doesn't start to say "dad" anytime I ask her to say "mom," I'll be okay with it. She has her daddy wrapped around her little finger so it does seem fitting that she loves to talk about him too.

Although we call her our princess, she is a tough, adventurous little baby. She is climbing up on everything, has figured out how to go up stairs {and yes, may or may not have fallen down a couple of steps once or twice}, constantly stands and tries to walk along furniture and toys. Our house is 10x more baby-proofed than it ever was been before and that is still barely stopping her from her explorations.
She absolutely loves her big brother and wants to be with him constantly—which I'm sure motivates her willingness to climb, run, and chase anywhere he goes. They are adorable when they are playing together {and they definitely have plenty of moments when they act more like archenemies, as you can see in one of the pictures below...} Although there is tons of energy, playing, wrestling, fighting, screaming, and giggling, I feel so lucky to be their mom and love watching them learn how to be friends.
Because she was was so uncomfortable while colicky and then became mobile so quickly, I feel like she has never been a snuggly baby. Now that she's completely figured out how to get around and go anywhere she wants, she likes to come to us and climb on our laps to be held. She always wants to be everywhere that we are. She and A are cute little friends but they tend to already fight a lot because she is able to get almost anywhere that he is and wants to play with whatever he has. She has also become Queen of the Shopping Cart now that she doesn't have her carrier carseat anymore. A is not too thrilled about having to walk everywhere but luckily we do the majority of our shopping at Costco where the carts are gigantic and have two seats! They get along surprisingly well sitting side by side... probably because they always tend to behave better in public than they do at home!
She absolutely loves going on walks and does her gasp/screech giggle almost non-stop along the way. She and A also love swinging together in our backyard. They are content to swing forever just giggling and squealing. It is so cute and a relaxing break to just sit together outside. Even though it's been a mild winter, I'm so excited for warmer weather to come!
Speaking of the weather, we have only gotten a couple big storms with enough snow to stick to the ground. One was just about a week ago and now that E is crawling, she was absolutely fascinated by all the cold white fluff on the pokey green stuff. At first I couldn't tell if she hated it, but once she saw A doing it then she wanted to play too because she loves everything her big brother loves!
We've been working on that whole thing of being open and encouraging about all things toilet-related. Trust me, this is truly one of the joys of parenthood. I'm already so sick of pretending like bodily functions are super exciting—and this is just the beginning of this potty training process!

He will occasionally ask to sit on the potty when we change his diaper; mostly because he has a little container of M&Ms and he gets "tree tannies!" (aka "3 candies") as a reward any time there is a success. This past week, out of the blue, he kept talking about wearing underwear and saying he wanted some.

So today, we made a special trip to the "underwear store" and he excitedly picked out the ones he wanted. He was so proud and told people all along our way to the registers how he's getting big kid underwear. Considering that he is typically pretty shy, I thought it was cute to see him so excited about it.
So far, he hasn't had any accidents and fingers crossed he continues to do well! I'm so proud of him—even if I think he's growing up too fast!Krisyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07691963623187534945noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7363924485945248692.post-30493020174627550702015-02-23T16:53:00.000-07:002015-02-24T16:53:56.301-07:00Baby E's First TeethThis cute girl has had a rough teething week. She's been gnawing on her teething rings like the cold numbing relief can't happen fast enough, drooling everywhere, her nose has been running like a faucet and she has a diaper rash with blisters {I promise it's not from neglect - the amount of cream and diapers we've gone through this week are astounding and yet she's still got this horrible rash!}, and all she wants is to be held and snuggled. Teething has been much harder on her than it ever seemed to be for her brother.

She is an overachiever and/or a bargainer because she went through all of this and must have decided it was only worth it to get two teeth out of the deal. Both bottom teeth broke through today!!

And she has a grin the size of Texas so it was pretty easy to catch a photo of the cute little chompers!
I don't know who said my baby boy could grow up so fast, but I don't think I'm okay with it!

He has been fighting naptime and bedtime so much recently plus he has been showing a lot more of a desire for independence lately. So we decided that maybe it would help the fights to give him the freedom of the toddler bed instead of having him feel trapped in his crib.

His Auntie Kiera found the cute dinosaur bedding for him a few months ago and he was so excited to have the bed put together as his "big boy dinosaur bed!" He was too excited to settle down for a nap today but played nicely in his room for Quiet Time instead; and crashed into his bed at bedtime. I'm hoping this transition will go as easily as it has been so far today!Krisyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07691963623187534945noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7363924485945248692.post-9332657002305234202015-02-14T23:15:00.000-07:002015-03-12T00:03:36.354-06:00Valentine's DayOne of the things I love most about Valentines Day in our house is that we are able to celebrate all different types of love. Sure, it's a romantic holiday. But M and I also love our kids, our kids love us, and our kids share a little bit of sibling love. It's so fun to celebrate all together and enjoy Love Day with all our different love-filled relationships.

Our Valentines tradition for dinner is homemade pizzas. This year was so fun because A is old enough to help and enjoy putting together his own pizza.
Between the four of us, we exchanged gifts including way more delicious chocolate than we probably need plus my handsome boys brought home a gorgeous bouquet of roses for me.
We had a fantastic Valentines Day! I love this little family of mine so much.Krisyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07691963623187534945noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7363924485945248692.post-55085088586215175192015-02-12T23:04:00.000-07:002015-03-27T23:10:58.598-06:00Grateful for Gamma B.Here in our house, we really love "Gamma and Gampa and Kyle in Idaho!" It's hard living in separate states and, even though I'm a grownup, I still miss my family a lot. My mom and I decided it would be fun to meet in the middle for lunch dates every couple of months—and today was our first one!

We had a blast and I'm so grateful that my mom could clear her schedule for an entire day just snap pictures, eat sandwiches, and play at the park with us. It was perfect.
She is definitely the cutest little girl I've ever seen!

Her current stats:

Weight: 18 lbs.

Height: 26.5 inches

Diaper Size: She is wearing Size 2.

Clothing Size: She's wears 3-6 Months.

Likes: Eating, crawling around, pulling herself up on the furniture, anything A is doing.

Dislikes: Mom or dad leaving the room.

One of the main reasons I feel like E seems waaaayyy too grown up lately is because he's figured out crawling! What started with her army crawl/squirming across the room has turned into pushing up into a real crawling position, rocking back and forth, and eventually taking a step or two {are they still called steps when they are with knees instead of feet?!} and suddenly taking off! She is everywhere and getting into everything! She loves to explore and pull anything and everything out of containers, baskets, buckets, and whatever else she can find.

She loves to pull herself up on things and loves to hold onto any furniture so she can be standing. When there is something she really wants, she even tries to take a step or two along the furniture to reach it.

Food makes her so excited and she loves to eat everything. So far, we haven't found any foods she doesn't like. She will still eat them but she acts as if she's too big for pureed baby foods because she always just wants what the rest of us are eating - especially whatever A is eating!

She has started laughing a lot more often. It is such a cute laugh because it still sounds more like a cross between a gasp and a shriek than any sort of laugh. But we start laughing when she laughs because it's such a fun and cute sound!

She is trying to "talk" all the time lately! It's so cute hearing her sweet little girly voice as she rambles on in her baby talk. She frequently says "mom-mom-mom" and "dad-dad-dad" {and A thinks that she says his name too} but it's just the sounds and she isn't saying the words in association with the people quite yet.

Loves to play with A and seems to think she's a two-year-old as well! They are really cute together and I hope they will grow up to be great friends.

Her stranger-danger/seperation anxiety is starting to kick in. She does not like to be handed off to anyone besides mom and dad; and sometimes she will even start crying if we start to walk away from her. I feel like it's extra challenging because A is still nervous around a lot of other people and tends to be clingy, so when E gets nervous and wants to be held as well then I end up with my arms full of crying, clinging kids!

She really enjoys playing outside and seems fascinated by everything in nature.

Although she is sweet and adorable, she is also a very strong-willed, determined little girl! Sometimes I get nervous that those qualities will make her teenage years a very bumpy ride for us as her parents, but then I remember what powerful qualities those are for great women who accomplish great things. I hope we can do a good job to raise her to use her strong personality for good.

It's my own fault because I don't let my kids cry it out, but she still wakes up at least two or three times a night right now. Overall, I feel like she is a good sleeper because she sleeps through a lot of her big brother's noises and especially loves naptime.

She is becoming such a fun little girl and we are so happy to have her in our family!
